Employee Spotlight: Cory Boston, Project Manager for FSG Houston

Meet Cory Boston, Project Manager at FSG Houston. Cory joined FSG in January 2022, bringing with him a decade of experience in the electrical industry. His career began in 2012 as an apprentice in the field, where he completed the IEC four-year program in Houston and earned his Journeyman license in 2016. From there, he moved into estimating, BIM coordination, and an assistant project manager role before stepping into his current position at FSG.

Reflecting on his journey from apprentice to project manager, Cory credits his success to seeing the job from multiple perspectives. “Having witnessed the job from various levels and contributing to it, I have developed a well-rounded management style,” he says. That perspective continues to guide him as he leads FSG projects today.

Since joining FSG, Cory has gained valuable experience working on large-scale projects. Each one has helped refine his project management skills and reinforced his commitment to continuous improvement for both himself and FSG.

What excites Cory most about the job is problem solving and working with people. Whether coordinating with general contractors, city developers, or FSG’s electrical team, he finds energy in tackling challenges together to ensure a successful project outcome.

When asked what he’s most proud of, Cory pointed to the opportunity to lead by example. He sees his role as not only driving projects forward but also ensuring his teams are motivated and working in a healthy, collaborative environment. “It isn’t always perfect,” he says, “but I enjoy the challenge.”

One of Cory’s toughest challenges came when supply chain issues delayed critical electrical panelboards, threatening project timelines and customer schedules. Rather than accept the setback, he worked with another manufacturer to source parts and build panelboards piece by piece, keeping the project on track. “When these types of problems arise, it is important to be proactive and to seek solutions by any means necessary,” he says.

Outside of the job, family is at the center of Cory’s life. He and his wife have three daughters and one son, ages 3, 5, 9, and 11, so it’s no surprise that their schedules are filled with sports and activities. Somehow Cory even finds time to help coach his son’s baseball team. When he has downtime, he enjoys practicing guitar, even if he modestly admits, “I’m no good at it, but I try.”

Keep up the good work, Cory!
