Backhoe Operator

Job Description

As a Backhoe Operator, you will run heavy equipment in a construction environment – excavate and back-fill soil. Equipment may include a dozer, loader, and backhoe. The ideal candidate will be able to work well with others, operate equipment to established safety standards, and be dependable and detail-oriented.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operates heavy equipment including but not limited to bulldozers, backhoes, loaders, end dumps, graders, scrapers, and excavators
  • Cuts and fills earth for building sites and roadbeds
  • Interprets information on grade stakes
  • Clears, strips, excavates, backfills, stockpiles and pushes scraper with tractor crawler
  • Cuts and spreads fill material with scraper
  • Digs holes and trenches using excavators and loaders
  • Works inside and outside year-round in different types of weather
  • Inspects equipment daily for safety and legal compliance including but not limited to tires, tracks, lights, grease, brakes, fuel, oil, and water
  • Adhere to all company standards and work safely
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One year experience preferred in operating one or more of the following: backhoe, loader, grader, bulldozer, excavator, or scraper
  • Must be able to perform the physical tasks of the position as well as withstand the environmental conditions. Position requires the ability to grasp, walk, lift, carry, push, pull, climb, kneel, stoop, squat, bend, crouch, crawl, and reach in small spaces throughout the day.
  • Work environment can include exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noises.
  • Must work daily and weekend overtime as needed or assigned.
  • Must be able to pass a drug and background screen
