Omar Talamantes joined FSG in November 2024 as Chief Estimator for Location 34 in Florida. Ask Omar what he’s most proud of in his career, and he won’t point to a marquee project or a headline win. He’ll point to the people.
“I’ve been fortunate to contribute to several high-profile projects,” he says, “but my proudest achievement has been building and developing strong estimating and preconstruction teams.” Omar takes the most pride in creating teams that consistently deliver results from recruiting and training to streamlining processes and fostering collaboration.
He says the hardest part of that work is also the most rewarding: bringing together individuals with different personalities and working styles into a cohesive, high-performing team. His approach is straightforward. It involves clear communication, aligned goals, and a deliberate effort to leverage each person’s strengths so the team stays balanced and productive.
Omar is most energized by the deal-making part of his role. “Contract negotiations are where I’m most in my element,” Omar says. “Being at the table, aligning interests, and working toward securing new opportunities is both challenging and highly rewarding.”
Since joining FSG, Omar credits our leadership for sharpening his approach to strategic thinking, client relationships, and negotiation. And he’s thought a lot about how growth happens. In his experience, people develop skills in three ways: through mentorship from experienced professionals, by observing others, and through hands-on experience. He says trial and error works, but it’s often the hardest path. Being intentional about how you learn makes a real difference.
Off the clock, Omar heads for the water. He enjoys anything that keeps him connected to the outdoors, including SCUBA diving, swimming, and spending time at the beach.
Keep up the good work, Omar!
