Three government projects worth highlighting are the Mickey Leland Federal Building in Houston, Texas, the Duluth Federal Prison in Minnesota, and the US Army Corps of Engineers in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The G.T. “Mickey” Leland Federal Building in downtown Houston was beginning to appear outdated compared to the surrounding businesses. An entire building upgrade was in the works, and Gilbane entrusted FSG Houston with the electrical construction services. FSG worked diligently to provide work including electrical design-assist, replacement of all lighting, controls, and a fire alarm system for the entire tower, all while maintaining professionalism and minimal disruption. Gilbane and Gensler earned a LEED Platinum certification and the Innovative Energy Project of the Year award.
Case Study: Mickey Lelan Federal Building
The Duluth Federal Prison in Minnesota was in need of updated lighting throughout the minimal-security federal prison. The project consisted of retrofitting the interior and exterior lighting of twenty-six buildings. With no interruption to the daily prison operations, FSG’s whole facility retrofit resulted in reduced annual electric costs and optimal lighting for the prison.
Case Study: Duluth Federal Prison
FSG Albuquerque worked with the US Army Corp of Engineers in lighting seven of their dams. The facilities were outfitted with new LED lamps in the interior and LED fixtures for the exterior HID floodlights. Not only did the quality of light improve throughout the dams, but the work done is covered by a five-year warranty and annual energy savings.
