Employee Spotlight: Johnny Farmer, Apprentice Electrician for FSG NY
Meet Johnny Farmer, Apprentice Electrician for FSG New York. Farmer joined FSG in June 2021 after working in temporary labor, operating hoists and elevators. After joining FSG, he enrolled in and graduated from Propel Career Academy and has built a strong reputation for hard work and steady growth on the job.
When Johnny first started at FSG, he didn’t know much about electrical work. Through hard work, grit, and dedication, he now has the confidence of his foreman and crew leads to take on tasks independently. That growth is a point of pride for him, as it should be! Challenges still come, like figuring out problems when following behind another worker, but Johnny handles them by leaning on teamwork and asking questions when needed.
The project that Johnny is most proud of is 760 Madison Avenue, a luxury mixed-use development on Manhattan’s Upper East Side featuring the Giorgio Armani flagship store and luxury residences above, where he put in countless hours and effort.
What drives him most is seeing the results of his work come together without issues, knowing he contributed to a successful outcome. Over time, he’s learned that troubleshooting is one of the most valuable skills in electrical work. But perhaps the biggest lesson is one he carries with him every day: “No matter how long you’ve been doing electrical, you learn something new every day,” and he also emphasized the importance of being humble to others.
Outside of work, Johnny enjoys spending time with his wife and kids, often taking them on weekend outings. When he’s not with his family, he likes to relax by playing video games.
Keep up the good work, Johnny!
