Eugene Senter – CST & Master Electrician, has earned the honor of Indiana’s nominee for ABC National Craft Instructor of the Year!
Gene just returned from San Antonio, TX where he attended the National Craft Championships. Each year, ABC presents the Craft Instructor of the Year (CITY) Award to an instructor who possesses outstanding creativity, a positive attitude and the ability to transfer knowledge through good communication skills and innovative teaching to promote life-long learning to our future workforce. The recipient of this national award best embodies the merit shop ideals through superior effort and talent as recognized by others.
Gene is a great asset to Division 80, and it is no surprise that he has been leaving his mark on his electrical apprenticeship students and fellow colleagues at ABC for the past 18 years. After a 20 year career in the military, where he first learned to Master his craft, he found inspiration by teaching other service men. He moved to Indiana and joined FSG in 2006.
In his nomination letter, ABC mentioned that Gene knows the importance of training and infuses in his students the benefits of training by pointing out the advancement of their careers, the ability of students to mentor others through training, and by promoting professionalism throughout their lifetimes.
He instills this desire to learn and encourages continued training because he knows technology is always changing and the only way to keep up is to continue to learn.
One of his students stated, “Gene has taught me 3rd & 4th year. He has gone above and beyond the school’s Guidelines to teach me my trade. He never hesitates to make sure the whole class is on the same page and understanding what he is teaching. He strives for us all to be successful electricians. He makes himself available even after class if you have questions. If I had not had Gene, I often think I would not have gotten the knowledge I have today. He is a brilliant person to the trade and makes learning interesting.”
We are all proud of, and inspired by, Gene Senter and want to congratulate him on his National nomination and earning Indiana’s Craft Instructor of the Year.
